Girls Fast Pitch Softball Sign-Ups

The Girls Fast-Pitch leagues are open to girls ages 7 – 14 with age eligibility determined by the participant’s age as of December 31, 2009. Leagues offered include 8U (ages 7 & 8), 10U (ages 9 & 10), 12U (ages 11 & 12) and 14U (ages 13 & 14). The cost to participate in the league is $35 per player (uniform cost not included). Some locations may have booster clubs that charge a fee, but this fee is optional. A limited number of scholarships are available upon request. Registrations can be completed online with a credit card and email address at www.lexingtonky.gov/parks . All other registrations accepted at the Dunbar Community Center (545 N. Upper Street). Additionally, a new summer fast-pitch softball league for girls who are 13 – 15 years of age is being offered at no cost. For information on this program, call 619-4777. Woodsongs: Old-Time Radio Hour

Every Monday night join Michael Johnathon and guests for a taping of Kentucky's only live syndicated radio show. Spring Equestrian Lesson Sign-Ups

Lexington Parks & Recreation offers classes in basic horsemanship with the purpose of teaching individuals how to ride safely and to work around horses. Taught through a supervised program, all instruction is English Hunt Seat. Registration for spring classes will take place on Saturday, March 13, at McConnell Springs (416 Rebmann Lane). Youth registration for ages 10 – 15 years will take place at 8:30 am and adult registration for adults ages 16 and over will take place at 10 am. A lottery system will be used to ensure fairness. The cost to participate in the equestrian program is $75 for youth classes and $95 for adult classes. Classes will run April 12 – May 28. To learn more, call 253-0328.

Exploring the Night Woodcock Watch

Come out to Raven Run for an evening walk. Naturalist Brian Perry will lead you through the meadow trails at dusk to search for nocturnal animals. The highlight of the walk (birds permitting) will be the fantastic flight dance of the woodcock, a small ground-dwelling bird most people have never seen. Calvary Baptist Church's Mothers Day Out and Preschool Program Enrollment for Summer Session

Calvary Baptist Church will offer enrollment for their six-week summer session on March 23-25, 2010, for children ages three months through children that have just completed Kindergarten. All children participate in fun summer-themed activities such as: Water Day; Family Picnic Day; Patriotic 4th of July festivities and more. In addition, children ages three years through Kindergarten have gone on an exciting variety of local field trips throughout Lexington to places such as: Lexington Public Library; Lexington Farmers’ Market; the Living Arts and Science Center, the United States Post Office; Lexington’s Explorium; as well as educational scavenger hunts through various downtown locations. Archeology at Raven Run: The Prather Hourse

This March, the Kentucky Archaeological Survey is conducting an archeological excavation near Raven Run’s 19th century homestead, the Prather House. Individuals are invited to join them on-site to learn about the history of the Prather House and examine items that the archeologists have discovered during their previous two weeks of digging. Representatives from the Survey will explain how such excavations are completed and will demonstrate many of the tools used by modern archeologists. You won’t want to miss this very unique educational event. Participation is limited and registration is required for this free program by calling 272-6105.
