The Hamburg area welcomed Brenda Cowan Elementary, just past Jacobson Park, to the neighborhood. They hosted a ribbon cutting a few days before classes began, allowing city officials and family members of Brenda Cowan to speak about this special day.

Race for the Kids
The inaugural Rising Stars Kids 3K is on Sunday, September 29 at 3 pm at Liberty Elementary School. This kids only race is powered by Grassroots Running Club, a youth running program created by our friends and neighbors at Grassroots Pharmacy. The race will start/finish at Liberty Elementary School and run along the paved Liberty Trail. The 3K Run/Walk is for kids ages 6-16, there will also be a 1/4 Mile Run/Walk for kids ages 2-5.

A sixth grader from Christ the King won LexTran’s recent inaugural bus wrap competition. Polly Rink, 11 years old, submitted her design in their summer contest for kids, and her design was selected among 70 entries. The wrap will be displayed on a LexTran bus for the next three months, so keep an eye out!

New buildings for Tates Creek HS
Tates Creek High School is getting closer to a brand new building. The local planning committee has included a new construction option for Tates Creek HS rather than renovations, for a more cost effective plan. Designed by Tate Hill Jacobs Architects, the construction would be built in phases on the current property.

More than 250 young artists from Lafayette, Dunbar, Henry Clay, Tates Creek, Bryan Station, Sayre School, Trinity Christian Academy and others throughout the commonwealth participated in the Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts over the summer.
