Every Sunday in September, Moveable Feast Lexington will sponsor a gathering at a different historic, architecturally significant Lexington home with a special host to celebrate art, music and literature. These events are being called September Sunday Salons. Each event will be uniquely styled by the individual hosts. Each Sunday program will serve up food, drink, and plenty of interaction with the arts and fine art collections.

Sunday, September 7
John Wilkerson will host an afternoon tea at 437 W. Second St. the Thomas January House (1810), in the early 19th century parlors. Maryjean Wall will be presenting her new book published by University of Kentucky Press, Madam Belle. Her book is the definitive book on Belle Brezing and the first on the subject in over 30 years. Brooklyn based artist Laura Smith will exhibit “Direction and Disintegration,” recent works from her New York studio.

Sunday, September 14
Robie Flynn and Marty Byro will host an Urban-country Newgrass picnic at 480 W. Sixth St. This “T-Plan” Victorian Cottage was built in the 1870s by stone mason, Frank Hulett, as a farmhouse for his son. The small barn on the property also dates from this time. Music will be provided by Ben Sollee; also on display is new works by painter Patrick Smith, who’s represented in the 21c museum collection.

Sunday, September 21
Historian and author David Burg will open his 1920s Craftsman home at 291 S. Ashland, showing his art collection detailing a lifelong love of art and artist. Kentucky poet laureate Frank X Walker will read from his new fiction manuscript, The Devil Is Beating His Wife.

Sunday, September 28
Architectural glass artist Frank Close will open his 1920s Arts and Craft/Dutch Rival home and studio at 444 Sixth Street for a yard party. On view will be his late 20th century art collection, gathered during a 20-year tenure designing in New York City. Also being presented are recent works by Lina Tharsing, and music by Chris Sullivan.

Tickets for any one of these events is $75 each; a pass to all four is $250. Call Moveable Feast Lexington at 859.252-2867 for a reservation. Attendance will be strictly kept at small numbers to ensure a unique experience, and space is limited. All salons will be from 2:30 pm till 5:30 pm.
